WelcomeWe would like to welcome all our new children and families this term ...
Our Weymouth nursery has been operating for over 31 years, starting at Bincleaves Avenue in Weymouth before moving to our current premises on Buxton Road in 2004. Our setting is run by our Weymouth manager who has been with Chipmunks since 2006.
Our setting is a lovely period house with large garden, outside terrace, courtyard playground and lots of outside spaces to explore.
Inside our setting we have lots of inviting rooms for the children to access, these are separated into various units to cater for different ages and abilities to enable the best learning environments for our children.
We provide a positive play environment for every child, so they may develop good social skills and an appreciation of all aspects of this country’s multicultural society. We plan learning experiences to ensure, as far as practical, there is equality of opportunity for all children and a celebration of diversity.
We maintain a personalised record of every child’s development, showing their abilities, progress, interests and areas needing further staff or parental assistance.
We ensure that the educational programmes are well planned and resourced to have depth and breadth across the seven areas of learning. They provide interesting and challenging experiences that meet the needs of all children. Planning is based on a secure knowledge and understanding of how to promote the learning and development of young children and what they can achieve
We implement the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) set by the Department for Education that sets standards to ensure all children learn and develop well. We support and enhance children’s learning and development holistically through play-based activities. We review all aspects of learning and development and ensure a flexible approach is maintained, which responds quickly to children’s learning and developmental needs. We develop tailor-made activities based on observations which inform future planning and draw on children’s needs and interests. This is promoted through a balance of adult-led and child-initiated opportunities both indoors and outdoors.
We have a kitchen on site where our lovely cook offers fresh meals cooked daily using local produce and catering for all dietary requirements.
There is also a separate coach house for Clayland’s which is open throughout school holidays. This is for school aged children from 4 – 11 years, providing various activities throughout the day and having free flow to their own outside space.
The Daisies – Babies
When children first start we work really closely with parents and carers to ensure that we know the children and understand their emotional needs. We liaise with parents throughout the day when they are settling in and offer phone call updates to inform them how a child is settling. We offer settling-in sessions for the children before they start and these are individual to each child and their families’ needs and requirements.
We have the main playroom and a sleeping room. In our main playroom, we have lots of natural resources for the children to explore. We really enjoy lots of messy activities like edible sand, painting and water play are just a few. The children are able to access mark-making throughout the day and have a beautiful old suitcase as a sandpit in the room.
The sleep room is a calm area with cots and black-out blinds where we cater for the children’s individual sleep patterns and routines.
We have our own grassed garden area where the children have access to a mud kitchen, sand pit, water play and slides. They also have areas where they can plant flowers and watch them grow.
The Bluebell’s – Toddlers
In the Bumblebees, we like to go outside and explore in all weathers, when your child attends their sessions please ensure that they have the appropriate things to be able to access the outside fully. For example, during the summer months, you will need to provide your child with a sunhat and sun cream and during the winter months, you should provide your child with warm/waterproof clothes (all-in-one suits are ideal) and wellies. We also recommend that you provide spare clothes for your child in case they get wet or dirty.
When your child first arrives with us here in the Bumblebees room our main priority is to help them to settle in, be happy in our care and able to express themselves.
The Sunflower’s – Pre-school
At chipmunks we have a key person system in place, this means that every child will have a designated key person who will observe each child’s development while they explore our planning in the moment approach.
In the preschool, we have three rooms, the toilets and an outside area (the terrace)
In our main room which is our biggest room, we have our Mark Making Area which is where the children enjoy making pictures and talking about them and using a variety of media and materials.
A Maths Area is where we do lots of number play i.e. counting, recognising numerals, sorting, size.
A Small-World Area is where the children can engage in imaginative play using the natural resources, animals, people, cars and trains.
We also have a loose parts area, the children love exploring all the different objects. Loose parts play is good for cognitive development, curiosity, imagination and creativity.
In the middle room, we have a nice big Home Corner which is where the children can be imaginative and act out various experiences they may have had or something they are interested in.
We also have our cosy Book Area in this room where the children can sit and look at books independently and listen to stories read by an adult.
Our outside area (the terrace) is used daily for the children to free-flow between inside and outside. We also have a yard and a large garden which we use regularly. We do try to use the outdoors as much as possible so please provide wellington boots for when it’s wet and muddy, plus a waterproof coat that you do not mind getting dirty! We ask for sun cream and hats when the weather starts to warm up. Your child will be able to explore all areas of learning throughout the rooms and all outside areas.
Welcome to Claylands
Claylands provide facilities for the children to play outside safely, in a securely fenced area either on grass or in our playground. The rooms allocated are equipped with a range of toys, activities, large play equipment, games and puzzles. We also have a range of books, computers and a television for the more relaxing parts of the day.
Meal Times:
Staff will use meal and snack times to help children to develop independence through making choices, serving food and drink, and feeding themselves. Staff will support children to make healthy choices and understand the need for healthy eating.
Dietary Needs:
Where appropriate, we will carry out a risk assessment in the case of allergies and work alongside parents/carers to put into place an individual dietary plan for their child
Settling In:
All our staff know about the importance of building strong attachments with children. They are trained to recognise the different stages of attachment and use this knowledge to support children and families settling in to the nursery.
SEN:
At Chipmunks Day Nursery we are committed to the inclusion of all children. All children have the right to be cared for and educated to develop to their full potential alongside their peers through positive experiences, to enable them to share opportunities and experiences and develop and learn from each other.
